[style news] Target to expand with smaller boutiques in urban locations

The state of the economy has big-box retailers scrambling for a quick fix, and Target is no different. WWD is reporting that Target is planning to expand, but not in the direction you might think - with smaller, carefully edited boutiques in urban locations. The development follows a series of pop-up boutiques in Manhattan for their designer collaborations and last year's holiday store, all of which were a hit with fashion-loving thriftpennies. Target has spent years building a reputation as a competitor to Wal-Mart, but it seems they're thinking smaller and urban over big-box and suburban. The shops are planned to launch over the next five to ten years in "urban centers [in addition to] expansions into Canada or Latin America," says WWD.
